- Can you tell me a little bit about the event that you hosted last summer from Himalayan Restaurant?
We held a backyard "barbecue" to mark the end of summer for our family and friends last Labor Day Weekend. The intention was to have people come and go as they please between 11-7pm.
- What made you decide to go with the Himalayan Restaurant over other caterers?
My husband had been using Himalayan for "general" catering before I moved here. And when I came along, I wanted to experiment with new menus and also a full-service idea of catering. We have used Himalayan to have Hakka Chinese food at our gatherings as well as South Indian with fresh dosas in the backyard and everyone has enjoyed getting the idea of getting fresh food from the Chef himself. So for Labor Day, we wanted fresh tandoori naans and tawa vegetables as well as other items being served to the guests throughout the day regardless of when they arrived. People loved it! they loved customizing their own naans and watching them being made in the tandoor (the clay oven) and then having it right there. The variety of food we had and the novelty of everything being fresh throughout the day was a big hit.
- Did the Himalayan Restaurant go above and beyond your expectations and if so how did they do this?
Himalayan Restaurant did go beyond our expectations—they arrived on time, they were very creative with the food in how it was presented on the tawa’s and they provided personalized service to all the guests.
- What did you find special and unique about the services offered by the Himalayan Restaurant?
The onsite tandoor use and the tawas that allows you to prepare fresh food that otherwise may not have tasted that good. Knowledgeable staff that has years of experience and with a customer service attitude that they can accommodate individual needs of the guest.
- Can you tell me about the food that was served at your event?
The menu was: On the tawa, tiger prawns, lamb chops, paneer tikka, fresh samosa, tandoori masala chicken wings, tandoori seekh kabobs and egg plant, okra, tandoori chicken and chana and fresh garlic and onion naans with falooda for dessert.
The tawa items were exceptionally well made and everyone enjoyed the hot food and the lamb chops were scrumptious and fell off the bones with each bite, and the fresh naans made to taste were wonderfully made hot from the oven and served individually.
The dessert of falooda was an absolute hit with the guests since it was still the end of summer so it was cooling on a warm day and was a unique addition to the menu.
- Can you describe the customer service that was received?
We had asked for not only servers but an event manager and Himalayan had sent an event manager who had years of experience under his belt. He arranged everything and took into account our needs while exercising discretion in making things efficient without compromising customer needs. In addition, the servers we had were exceptionally attentive to all the guests and made sure everything was cleaned up before they left.
- What made the catering services and overall event management from Himalayan Restaurant so different from typical caterers?
They were creative and they took our concept of what we wanted and took the initiative to create the menu and the atmosphere around it. Instead of just catering an event they ended up creating a theme—which is exactly what we wanted.
- Would you recommend the Himalayan Catering Services and event management to others, if so, why?
Yes, for a combination of creativity, great food and exceptional service.
- Would you use the Himalayan Catering Services again, if so, why?
Yes, Himalayan has now become our “resident caterer”—they are the first people we call for any event we have at our home, small or large, and we know that once we agree on the concept the service and the food we will have for ourselves and our guests will surpass our expectations—makes having social affairs at our home generally stress-free.
