On May 13, 2015, An Evening to Benefit Nepal Earthquake — a fundraising dinner — was held at Himalayan Restaurant in Niles. Nepal is home for us; the devastating earthquake that April touched our families, our friends, and our roots. Our community’s response filled our hearts.
A total of $22,465 was raised that evening. Online ticket sales and donations brought in $13,064, and an additional $9,401 came from ticket sales at the door and donations received at the restaurant. Combined with the fundraising that followed — Momo Nights, t-shirt sales, lunch donations, and individual gifts — the overall effort surpassed $30,000, sent to relief efforts through Global Giving, ELCA, and the Chyasal Youth Club in Nepal.
Our deepest thanks to Keith & Kelly, David and Cathy, and every single person who bought a ticket, donated, or simply showed up.
A special thank-you to the Himalayan Band, who put on a wonderful show spanning Nepali classics, Hindi favorites, and American songs — Vishal Maskey, Subodh Pokharel, Niraj Shrestha, Suchitra Tamrakar, Tenzing, and Mano: amazing job.
This event remains one of the proudest moments in our restaurant’s history. Since December 2003, Himalayan Restaurant has been more than a place to eat — it’s a piece of Nepal in Chicagoland, and moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
