On Thursday, October 8, Himalayan Restaurant in Niles had the honor of hosting the Nepal Flood Relief Fundraiser for Nepalese Aid, a non-profit organization supporting relief efforts in Nepal.
It was an evening that reminded us why we do what we do. For more than 20 years, Himalayan has been a place where the Nepalese and Indian community, our neighbors, and our guests come together over good food. Being part of an effort to help families in Nepal felt like a natural fit for our party room.
A community showing up
The Nepalese Aid team and volunteers filled the evening with energy and purpose. Community members, local leaders, and friends of Nepal came together in Niles to support flood relief.
Nepalese Aid has publicly thanked the elected officials and public servants who joined in support, along with the volunteers who made the event possible. In the words of the organization:
“Together, we showed that even from thousands of miles away, our hearts remain connected to Nepal.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
What we served
Working together with the Nepalese Aid team, we chose finger foods that were easy to enjoy while guests mingled:
- Vegetable cocktail samosa
- Vegetable pakora
- Tofu chili
- Grilled chicken
- Momo (chicken and vegetable)
A cash bar was also available throughout the evening.
Why this one matters to us
This isn’t the first time our community has rallied for Nepal at Himalayan. After the 2015 earthquake, we hosted a benefit dinner to support relief efforts, and you can read about it in our Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund dinner story. Each time, the response has been the same: people show up, they give, and they stay connected to home.
Planning a gathering of your own?
Our Niles party room seats up to 45 guests, with buffet or table service and a flexible menu. Whether it’s a fundraiser, a birthday, or a family celebration, we’d love to help. Read more about our party room in Niles, or call us at 847.324.4150.
